Land & Ethic Nature Reserve proudly welcomes internationally recognized wetland designer, Tom Biebighauser to conduct this hands-on workshop aimed at demonstrating practical, low-cost techniques to create or restore natural and native wetland habitats.

Participants will learn to select the best locations, test soil texture, choose appropriate construction techniques, work directly with heavy equipment operators, and survey previously constructed wetlands. The workshop is intended for biologists, ecologists, engineers, landscape architects, and wetland professionals.

Additionally, the workshop will include experts in the fields of freshwater ecology, chiropterology, entomology, and soil science who will be on hand to lend their areas of expertise to the class curriculum.

Land & Ethic Nature Reserve and the Wetlands Workshop have been reviewed and approved by the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) and qualifies for Continuing Education (CE) credits under the Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner Program (CERP).

Land & Ethic Nature Reserve is located at 7373 E Hogtown Rd Marengo, IN 47140, just 43 miles (roughly 50 minutes) from Louisville International Airport.

The workshop is expected to run until 5 PM on Wednesday and Thursday and until 1 PM on Friday. Please be sure to email Ella Kennedy at ella@ouiskarunfarm.com after purchasing your ticket(s) to provide a list of attendees from your organization and to receive the itinerary when it is completed.

SPECIAL BONUS - Thursday, October 28th from 6 - 10 PM, Steve Samoray, Senior Wildlife Biologist for Copperhead Environmental Consulting will discuss “Assisting in the Recovery of the Indiana Bat and BrandenBark Technology”. The team from Copperhead will deploy mist nets amongst the reserve in hopes of documenting native bat species. Participants will get up-close and personal with these highly beneficial mammals that frequent our night sky.

To date, Land & Ethic Nature Reserve has documented nine of Indiana’s thirteen bat species by way of acoustic monitoring.

Workshop does not include food or lodging. Land & Ethic Nature Reserve is 17 miles (roughly 25 minutes) from the city of Corydon which features many amenities.

NEW FOR 2027 - LODGING: Because the workshop is taking place during the most wonderful time of the year, we have opened the reserve to those that would prefer to camp. The cost will be $100 per registered person, which covers both nights of the workshop (Wednesday & Thursday). Those that choose to camp will have access to separate Porta Pots that are not in the event area as well as an outdoor shower.
